Raising awareness on Social Control.

Basically i was interested in Joseph Beuys' politics and raising awareness on social control, and wanted to use the recent film zeitgeist to do so, however this was a bit tenuous it it's link to joseph beuys so i changed it.

Raising Awareness on Social Control

Raising awareness on social control, Beuys was adament that society couldnt be run with interests of politicians and economic powers. I am thinking i could do a series of posters on raising the awareness of this, perhaps some linking to zeitgeist addendum...

A New Age

Well, the idea of social structure appeals to me in some way, but the ideals are a little too far fetched, it is very idealistic, however i would like to try and spread the word and see what happens, i very much agree that art is in everyone, i think most people enjoy being creative and i would like to get the public at large to realise this in some manner. It's interesting to see Beuys' politics, he says, democracy taken with the COMPLETE view of the public. So this includes everyone and doesn't allow for economic interests to control the vote so much. Somehow we have to get ALL the public to vote and have their say. I would quite like to have my final outcome based on this.

Art is the ONLY way to evolve...

This extract from the book Beuys in America helped me understand slightly more

"Here my idea is to declare that art is the only possibility for evolution, the only possibility to change the situation in the world. But then you have to enlarge the idea of art to include the whole creativity. And if you do that, it follows logically that every living being is an artist - an artist in the sense that he can develop his own capacity. And therefore it's necessary  at first that society cares about the educational system, that equality of opportunity for self realization is guaranteed."

I also agree that, it is no right that the politicians and the managers of economic powers control the destinies of the majority.

He wanted to increase the definition of art, so that the public at large would understand that art is more than just painting, sculpture etc, but that its creativity as a whole. I am interested in raising awareness about this, perhaps some posters could be produced? Keep thinking...

Social Sculpture.

To be honest, I don't really understand some of the concepts used, i wish artists could just get to the point rather than waffling where it is unnecessary. I do like the idea of everyone being an artist, i just don't really get how Beuys wanted to apply them to society, his terminology is somewhat baffling.

Beuys' ideals.

His conviction was that creativity was the key to change and evolution and that it cannot be limited to a narrow group of specialists called "artists".

"I'm not here to talk about the particular problems of artists, but about the whole question of potential, the possibility that everybody can do his own particular kind of art and work for the new social organisation. Creativity is a national income"
Joseph Beuys at the New School for Social Research, New York, January, 1974
